Thanos, Satu Contoh Karakter “Well-Meaning”
Sebagai penggemar Marvel Cinematic Universe atau MCU, tentu sudah lama kita diberikan sedikit spoiler megenai Thanos. Seingatku, spoiler mengenai Thanos sudah muncul sejak di Avengers pertama, bahwa Thanos-lah dalang dibalik Loki bersama pasukan Chitauri yang menyerang Bumi.
Spoiler alert! Untuk kamu yang belum menonton dan tidak ingin mendapatkan spoiler, silahkan berhenti disini dan klik tautan lainnya untuk dibaca. Untuk yang sudah nonton atau tidak berkeberatan dengan spoiler, silahkan dilanjutkan.
Aku bukanlah fans berat komik Marvel. Dulu waktu SMP/SMA membaca komiknya pun karena ada temen yang ngefans dan punya koleksi yang banyak sekali. Yang aku tahu, cerita dalam komiknya selalu penuh dengan kejutan. Tidak menyangka juga kalau MCU yang merupakan adaptasi dari karakter komik ini juga memiliki cerita yang penuh kejutan.
Kejutan apa yang dibawa oleh MCU?
Karakter Thanos misalnya. Dulu aku berpikir bahwa tujuan Thanos itu recehan, yakni menguasai dunia. Kupikir Thanos ingin berkuasa, menaklukkan semua makhluk hidup cerdas dibawah kakinya. Ternyata tidak seperti itu. Tujuan Thanos ternyata cukup mulia. Menyeimbangkan antara kehidupan dan sumber daya. Sumber daya akan menipis, sedangkan makhluk hidup terus bertambah.
Thanos mengambil jalan pintas, membunuh separuh populasi. Dia berpikir itu untuk kebaikan, padahal sebenarnya tidak sama sekali. Belum lagi cara yang dipakaiya untuk mencapai tujuannya itu. Inilah yang disebut dengan “well-meaning”, bermaksud baik, namun tidak dibarengi dengan tindakan yang benar. Sementara ini, aku belum tahu padanan kata “well-meaning” dalam bahasa Indonesia.
Niat yang baik, harus dibarengi tindakan baik
Kadang ada seseorang, yang niatnya mungkin baik, namun justru menorehkan luka. Misalnya ada teman yang sudah menikah lama sekali dan belum punya anak, eh, ada teman lain malah ngasi tips supaya cepat dapat anak. Hal ini hanya akan membuat pasangan yang belum punya anak itu merasa buruk dan sedih. Percayalah, tidak semua orang sama kekuatan hatinya.
Satu contoh lagi, menebar hoax di media sosial. Aku yakin, banyak dari saudara kita yang menyebarkan hoax, tidak bermaksud jahat. Mereka sangat ingin berbagi informasi yang menurut mereka penting. Hanya saja mereka salah dalam berbuat. Mereka tidak melakukan cek ulang dari berbagai sumber, langsung bagi-bagi saja. Sampai ada anekdot yang mengatakan bahwa kecepatan mereka membagi hoax melebihi kecepatan cahaya. Hehehe.
Contoh lagi yang lebih besar, teroris. Mereka bersemangat menegakkan agama, berusaha mewujudkan sebuah sistem yang menurut mereka disetujui oleh Tuhan. Tetapi apa yang mereka lakukan justru sebaliknya. Cara mereka mencapai tujuan justru bukan dengan cara-cara yang direstui oleh Tuhan. Memusuhi, membunuh dan perbuatan tak terpuji lainnya mereka lakukan atas nama Tuhan.
Mari kita kembali ke Thanos
Membunuh makhluk untuk mendapatkan Infinity Stones menjadi ciri khas Thanos, meskipun di beberapa tempat, bukan dia yang melakukannya. Memusnahkan planet Xandar, membunuh semua dwarf di Nivadellir dan hanya menyisakan satu, membunuh semua Asgardian (kecuali Thor) dan bahkan rela mengorbankan anak angkat yang (mungkin) disayanginya, Gamora.
Apakah semua itu memiliki kebaikan di dalamnya? Tentu tidak. Dengan pembelaan apapun, perbuatannya tidak bisa dibenarkan. Ada cara yang lebih baik untuk mengurangi populasi. Kalau mau menekan laju pertambahan penduduk, Thanos bisa magang di Indonesia, di BKKBN. Nanti bisa dilanjut menjadi Duta KB. Dia lalu bisa menyebarkan slogan KB “Dua Anak Lebih Baik” ke planet lainnya. Wkwkwkwk.
Mungkin ini hanya cerita fiksi, namun kita perlu menimbang hikmahnya. Apakah perbuatan kita selaras dengan niat kita selama ini? Apakah niat baik kita tidak menyakiti orang lain saat diwujudkan menjadi perbuatan? Mungkin kita perlu memikirkan kembali tindakan kita untuk mewujudkan niat yang baik itu. Be wise, everyone!
