Ada kabar kurang menyenangkan dari Google. Mesin pencari terbesar di internet ini secara diam-diam membuat semua aktivitas pencarian terenkripsi. Apa artinya ini?

Mengenkripsi aktivitas pencarian artinya termasuk mengacak kata kunci pencarian pengguna Google. Hal ini akan membuat perangkat lunak statistik tidak dapat membaca kata kunci yang datang ke suatu situs. Jika anda melihat Google Analytics, pada bagian keyword ada kalimat (not provided). Jika di statistik yang lain, anda akan melihat Google sebagai referrer.
Berita ini disadur dari Search Engine Land yang mengkonfirmasi kebenarannya langsung kepada Google. Jawaban dari Google secara jelas menyatakan bahwa telah dilakukan enkripsi kepada pengguna yang sign-in dan Chrome omnibox pada tahun 2011. Tahun ini mereka menerapkan hal yang sama pada pengguna Google secara keseluruhan, kecuali klik pada AdWords.
Google juga menegaskan bahwa alasan mereka melakukan ini adalah untuk menyediakan perlindungan tambahan bagi pengguna mesin pencari. Namun Search Engine Land menduga bahwa Google juga berusaha untuk menghalangi aktivitas mata-mata NSA. Google pernah dituduh memberikan akses kepada NSA mengenai data pencarian namun mereka membantah keras hal ini. Mungkin langkah ini adalah salah satu cara Google memperbaiki namanya.
Dari pantauan kami, sepertinya kebijakan ini baru diterapkan google.com saja, mengingat kami masih mendapatkan kata kunci dari google.co.id. Jika Google menerapkan kebijakan ini secara global, maka ucapkan selamat tinggal kepada data kata kunci. Optimasi mesin pencari akan memasuki babak baru dengan meraba-raba. 🙂
