Benarkah Cokelat Pembangkit Gairah Seksual?
Aphrodisiac atau zat yang membangkitkan gairah seksual sudah menjadi perbincangan maupun konsumsi orang sejak jaman dahulu kala.

Salah satunya adalah cokelat yang pertama kali dipopulerkan oleh bangsa Aztec sebagai Aphrodisiac. Hal ini tertulis dalam catatan kaisar Montezuma bahwa ia mengkonsumsi biji coklat dalam jumlah tertentu untuk meningkatkan gairah seksualnya. Namun apakah benar cokelat mengandung aphrodisiac seperti yang selama ini dipercaya sebagian orang?

Dewasa ini, para ilmuwan menemukan bahwa memang ada kandungan aphrodisiac pada cokelat. Ada dua zat, yakni tryptphan dan dan phenylethylamine. Tryptophan adalah zat yang menyusun serotonin, zat kimia dalam otak yang berhubungan dengan gairah seksual. Sedangkan phenylethylamine adalah stimulan yang berkaitan dengan amphetamine, biasa muncul saat orang sedang gembira atau jatuh cinta.
Akan tetapi banyak peneliti yang percaya bahwa jumlah dari kedua substansi diatas terlalu sedikit ada pada cokelat. Hal ini menyebabkan cokelat tidak memberikan efek pada tubuh manusia seperti layaknya aphrodisiac. Penelitian yang menunjukkan hubungan langsung antara konsumsi cokelat dan meningkatnya gairah seksual juga belum ada, bahkan kemungkinan tidak pernah ada.
Hasil penelitian terbaru yang diterbitkan dalam bentuk jurnal di Sexual Medicine, menyatakan bahwa wanita ternyata lebih sensitif terhadap efek dari cokelat. Peneliti tersebut berasal dari Italia, melakukan penelitian dengan sistem sampel acak berjumlah 163 wanita dewasa dengan usia rata-rata 35 tahun. Tidak ditemukan perbedaan signifikan tentang gairah seksual antara mereka yang tidak mengkonsumsi coklat, hanya mengkonsumsi satu takaran dan konsumsi tiga takaran per hari.
Penelitian tersebut memang bergantung pada hasil wawancara, tetapi ini membuat para peneliti makin percaya bahwa tidak ada korelasi konsumsi cokelat terhadap gairah seksual. Para peneliti mempercayai bahwa kenaikan gairan seksual setelah mengkonsumsi cokelat lebih disebabkan oleh psikologis, bukan secara fisiologis. Bagaimana menurut anda?
