Mudah dicari jawabannya, bukan? Adalah Robert Refinetti, seorang peneliti dari University of South Caroline memeriksa hasil penelitian di tahun 1982. Penelitian ini dipublikasikan di jurnal Human Biology oleh beberapa peneliti, yakni John Palmer, Richard Udry dan Naomi Morris. Penelitian ini melibatkan 78 pasangan menikah yang memiliki frekuensi pekerjaan yang tinggi pada hari-hari biasa.
Robert penasaran apakah dirinya bisa mendapatkan hasil yang sama jika penelitian ini dilakukan saat ini. Ia ingin mengetahui apakah faktor biologis atau faktor budaya yang memainkan peran kenapa manusia lebih memilih berhubungan seksual di malam hari. Ia menggunakan subyek orang-orang dengan rentang usia yang lebih lebar daripada penelitian sebelumnya. Refinetti menemukan bahwa:
- Mayoritas melakukannya di tempat tidur, jadi lebih mudah di malam hari.
- Lebih nyaman di malam hari karena tidak ada pekerjaan lain.
- Berhubungan seksual di malam hari diterima secara sosial.
Alasan-alasan diatas semuanya masuk akal. Memang banyak waktu dalam sehari, namun untuk orang yang mengikuti waktu normal. Hubungan seksual pada malam hari adalah waktu yang paling nyaman, menurut penelitian diatas. Bagaimanapun, alasan biologis pasti ada. Hal inilah yang akan diungkap dalam penelitian lanjutan Rafinetti.
Ya, penelitian ini masih belum selesai. Refinetti akan mengadakan lagi penelitian untuk mencari tahu apakah ritme circadian berpengaruh pada hal ini. Untuk melakukannya, ia akan menempatkan subyek berpasangan pada kegelapan yang konstan. Hal ini akan dilakukan selama beberapa hari dan melihat kapan mereka mulai ingin berhubungan seksual.
