Diet soda adalah soda dengan kadar glukosa rendah. Namun ternyata mengkonsumsi diet soda secara reguler bisa menjadi mimpi buruk untuk kesehatan anda. Sebuah penelitian baru-baru ini menunjukkan bahwa minuman ramah diet meningkatkan resiko stroke sebesar 61 persen.
Penelitian ini semakin bermakna setelah adanya berita bahwa stroke saat ini menyerang anak muda dan setengah baya di Amerika Serikat. Penelitian ini berdasarkan dari 2,564 responden yang tinggal di New York City dengan usia rata-rata 69 tahun. Peneliti menemukan bahwa orang yang secara teratur minum diet soda memiliki kecenderungan untuk mengalami masalah pembuluh darah dibandingkan mereka yang tidak mengkonsumsi minuman berkarbonasi.
Bahkan ketika para peneliti memperhitungkan faktor lain seperti sindrom metabolik, riwayat penyakit jantung dan penyakit pembuluh darah perifer, resiko stroke masih 48 persen lebih tinggi pada peminum soda diet.
Penelitian ini masih dalam tahap awal. Meskipun hasilnya menunjukkan diet soda meningkatkan resiko stroke, kami belum tahu kenapa hal ini bisa terjadi.
