Merenungi Apa Sebenarnya Kegunaan Kuliah
Pertanyaan yang bernada keraguan pasti muncul dari pikiran seorang mahasiswa. Terutama mereka yang sedang dilanda kesulitan menghadapi kuliah. Kejenuhan yang melanda bisa menimbulkan pertanyaan, apa sih gunanya kuliah itu?
Kalau teman kuliahnya secantik ini, apa masih tidak bersemangat?

Tidak bisa kita mengelak dari kenyataan bahwa sebagian besar mahasiswa akan berpikir demikian. Apa kegunaan kuliah yang sebenarnya. Pertanyaan lantas berlanjut tentang biaya kuliah yang mahal, namun tidak ada jaminan mendapat pekerjaan. Lalu muncul pertanyaan if then berikutnya. Jika dibiarkan, maka akan membuat seorang mahasiswa malas kuliah, menurunkan motivasi.
Pendidikan itu mendewasakan pola pikir
Menurut saya pribadi, pendidikan formal adalah salah satu jalan untuk mendewasakan pola pikir sehingga bisa mendekatkan kita pada keberadaban. Sama seperti jenjang sekolah sebelumnya, seorang mahasiswa dididik untuk lebih dewasa. Seharusnya seorang mahasiswa berada pada level kedewasaan yang berbeda dengan siswa SMA, SMP, SD bahkan TK. Sebagai tambahan informasi, kedewasaan tidak selalu berbanding lurus dengan usia, lho.
Pendidikan sebagai proses mendewasakan pola pikir memang sesuatu hal yang pasti terjadi. Tidak bisa kita pungkiri bahwa pola pikir maju lebih banyak berasal dari kalangan pendidikan formal, daripada sebaliknya. Kemajuan itu bisa di berbagai bidang seperti ekonomi, sosial kemasyarakatan, budaya, wawasan kenegaraan dan lain-lain. Intinya, pola pikir maju adalah segala hal yang membuat manusia melangkah ke depan.
Pola pikir maju inilah yang membuat manusia semakin beradab. Saat masih SD atau SMP, seseorang masih sering menggunakan otot untuk menyelesaikan konflik. Maka seharusnya di tingkat pendidikan tinggi, prosentase penggunaan otot ini harus minimal atau tidak ada sama sekali. Saat manusia banyak menggunakan akal untuk menyelesaikan masalah, maka ia akan semakin beradab. Maka jika ada mahasiswa yang masih suka tawuran, lebih baik dikembalikan ke SD lagi. 🙂
Bagaimana dengan yang tidak kuliah
Tidak kuliah bukan menjadikan seseorang menjadi manusia yang rendah dengan pola pikir yang tidak maju. Bukan, sama sekali bukan seperti itu. Memang sih, masyarakat Indonesia masih mengagungkan gelar, sehingga membuat sebagian dari kita tidak percaya diri jika tidak kuliah. Akan tetapi esensi kuliah itu sendiri bukanlah pada gelar, seperi uraian saya sebelumnya. Akan menjadi percuma seseorang yang memiliki gelar sepanjang kereta api namun pola pikirnya tidak maju dan beradab.
Maka dari itu untuk anda yang tidak kuliah dikarenakan sebab apapun, tidak perlu berkecil hati. Banyak juga orang sukses yang tidak kuliah. Kesuksesan seseorang tidak terjadi semata-mata karena gelarnya, namun pola pikir dan kecakapannya. Kedua hal ini bisa dipelajari, meskipun tidak di bangku kuliah sekalipun. Bahkan banyak orang yang sukses duluan baru kuliah untuk mendapatkan gelar. 🙂
Bisa diibaratkan bahwa kuliah itu adalah Haji di dalam Islam. Biayanya besar, makan waktu dan diwajibkan bagi yang mampu. Tetapi dalam melaksanakan haji, kita dilarang memaksakan diri. Begitu pula dengan kuliah, jika tidak bisa kuliah karena sebab tertentu maka tidak perlu memaksakan diri. Kuliah tidak menjamin anda mendapat pekerjaan dan hidup enak, masih ada hal lain yang harus dipenuhi yakni keuletan dan kreativitas.
Jadi bagaimana? Kuliah atau tidak?
Secara khusus, saya menyarannkan orang untuk tidak kuliah. Mari kita telisik lebih bijaksana dengan memeriksa kemampuan finansial kita. Kuliah itu membutuhkan biaya yang tidak sedikit. Jangan sampai kita berhenti di tengah jalan dan tidak dapat melanjutkannya. Namun jika anda sangat yakin bahwa anda bisa melakukannya (misalnya kuliah sambil usaha atau kerja), maka itu lebih baik.
Apalagi jika kita mampu secara finansial, mengapa tidak kuliah? Jika tidak kuliah saja kita hebat, apalagi jika kuliah. Kesalahan fatal mayoritas mahasiswa adalah menyandarkan proses pendewasaan diri pada materi dan kegiatan formal, sehingga terkesan membuang waktu. Kuliah sebenarnya bisa digunakan untuk hal lain seperti membangun relasi dan diskusi informal. Seorang mahasiswa yang nilai akademisnya biasa saja, namun dengan kemampuan non akademis yang luar biasa, memiliki peluang sukses lebih besar.
Apalagi jika mahasiswa tersebut memiliki nilai akademis dan kemampuan non akademis yang luar biasa, tentu tak ada lawan, kan? Pada akhirnya, semua adalah pilihan. Kembali kepada diri anda sendiri, memilih jalan yang sesuai dengan hati nurani. Banyak jalan menuju kesuksesan, layaknya banyak jalan menuju Malioboro. Selamat kuliah! 🙂
