Monumen Kresek, Sejarah Madiun di awal Kemerdekaan
Masyarakat Madiun dan sekitarnya pasti sudah mengenal yang namanya monumen Kresek. Monumen yang terletak 8 KM dari pusat kota Madiun itu sudah umum dikunjungi warga di hari minggu dan hari-hari libur. Monumen ini termasuk obyek wisata yang terawat cukup baik di Kabupaten Madiun, ditambah lagi akses jalan ke tempat ini sudah cukup bagus.
Monumen Kresek merupakan bagian dari sejarah kelam di masa awal kemerdekaan Indonesia. Saat itu segerombolan orang yang berideologi komunis ingin memisahkan diri dengan NKRI dan membentuk negara Soviet Republik Indonesia. Sekelompok orang ini adalah PKI atau Partai Komunis Indonesia yang sebelumnya bernama Indische Sociaal-Democratische Vereeniging (ISDV).
Menurut cerita penduduk sekitar, monumen itu dulu adalah rumah seorang warga yang digunakan oleh PKI untuk membantai banyak orang, mulai dari aparat desa, ulama atau orang-orang yang dianggap memiliki pengaruh namun menghalangi tujuan mereka. Mereka berasal dari berbagai daerah di wilayah Madiun dan sekitarnya. Monumen yang ada memang sedikit vulgar, menggambarkan usaha pemenggalan seorang ulama.
