Pengalaman Upgrade RAM Notebook ASUS X452E
Mungkin ini terlihat bodoh, tetapi saya benar-benar baru tahu bahwa penyebab kurang bagusnya performa notebook Asus X452E saya selama ini memang karena RAM yang tidak maksimal.
Tinggal bungkusnya saja, setelah dipasang baru keinget difoto. 🙂
Bukan tanpa alasan hal ini terlewat dari pandangan saya. Windows 8.1 di laptop saya selalu menunjukkan ada “free RAM” sebesar 250 MB. Ternyata setelah saya teliti lebih lanjut dari grafik yang ada pada tab Performance di Task Manager, laptop saya sebenarnya tidak memiliki “free RAM”, yang dikatakan free itu sebenarnya tidak benar-benar free karena digunakan sebagai cache.
Sebagai akibat dari hal tersebut, maka setiap ada aplikasi yang membutuhkan RAM, maka harddisk-lah yang membantu dengan sistem paging file. Tentu harddisk lebih lambat daripada RAM, sehingga membuat kinerja notebook Asus X452E menjadi tidak responsif. RAM boleh 2 GB, tetapi 600 MB digunakan oleh GPU, sehingga hanya tersisa 1,4 GB. Tentu saja ini kurang untuk Windows 8.1 Professional.
Upgrade RAM menjadi solusi masalah
Dari pemetaan masalah tersebut, akhirnya saya memutuskan untuk melakukan upgrade RAM. Sebenarnya sejak pertengahan bulan lalu pengen upgrade, tetapi belum ada dana. Setelah ada dana, maka diputuskan capcus ke El’S Computer untuk membeli RAM.
Sebelumnya saya telah mendapatkan nasehat dari seorang teman yang “ahli hardware” bahwa notebook yang “lahir” pertengahan 2013 hingga sekarang ini menggunakan RAM berjenis LV atau Low Voltage. RAM jenis ini menggunakan tegangan lebih kecil, yakni sekitar 1,35 volt, lebih rendah daripada RAM normal yang menggunakan tegangan 1,5 – 1,65 volt. Tentu saja karena notebook baru, maka termasuk dalam pengguna RAM jenis LV.
Setelah membeli GKK PureIt di UFO, saya bersama pacar meluncur ke El’s Computer. Sebenarnya tidak ada alasan yang cukup penting kenapa harus di toko tersebut. Kebetulan saja saya membeli notebook Asus X452E ini di toko tersebut dan saya pikir mereka memiliki pengetahuan yang baik mengenai jenis RAM yang cocok dengan notebook saya. Ternyata saya salah besar.
Si mas pramuniaga yang melayani saya bahkan masih kebingungan saat saya menyebutkan Asus X452E, tidak tahu jenis RAM apa yang cocok. Saya pikir toko sebesar El’s punya database untuk itu, ternyata tidak. Malah si mas pramuniaga menyarankan saya membawa notebooknya kesana. Berhubung saya sudah tahu, maka saya memutuskan membeli RAM 4 GB merek Visipro berjenis DDR3 LV.
Si mas pramuniaga itu masih juga menanyakan apa saya yakin, sudah seperti kuis saja. Ya tentu saja saya yakin, wong juga sudah googling dulu sebelum beli kok. Saya ini kan tipikal pembeli yang cerdas. Tidak merepotkan penjual. Hehehe. Akhirnya setelah membayar di kasir, baru deh saya boleh bawa pulang RAM-nya.
Cara memasang RAM Asus X452E
Malam sebelum membeli RAM, saya sudah meneliti bagian bawah casing notebook Asus X452E saya. Saya menemukan bahwa untuk memasang RAM cukup mudah, hanya membuka dua sekrup saja. Lokasinya ada di bagian bawah, seksi yang berada di bawah tangan kita, jadi sekitar bagian depan.
Setelah dua sekrup (dan memang hanya ada dua itu saja) dilepas, dorong ke arah luar (depan), maka cover-nya akan terlepas. Disitu akan terlihat harddisk, slot RAM dan WWAN WiFI card. Pasti anda bertanya-tanya, dimana RAM yang 2GB, mengingat disitu cuma ada slot kosong. Tepat di slot kosong itu RAM yang 2GB berada. Ya, RAM yang 2GB itu disolder langsung ke board alias onboard RAM.
Setelah anda tahu lokasi slot RAM, tak perlu takut memasangnya. Arahkan bagian RAM yang ada logamnya ke slot RAM dengan sudut 45° lalu tekan hingga masuk. Jika tidak masuk, berarti terbalik. Separator membagi slot RAM menjadi dua secara asimetris, sehingga mencegah kesalahan. Setelah masuk, tekan RAM kebawah hingga terkunci. Selesai. Silahkan kembalikan cover dan sekrupnya.
Total waktu yang dibutuhkan untuk memasang RAM tidak lebih lama daripada membelinya. Saya melakukannya dalam waktu 2 menit saja, mulai dari membuka cover sampai menutupnya lagi. Tetapi, jika memang anda ragu melakukannya, silahkan bawa ke tukang servis atau penjual RAM terdekat. Seringnya sih tidak gratis, meskipun pekerjaannya gampang. Yah, namanya juga orang cari nafkah. 🙂 Selamat mencoba!

ternyata kalau mau belajar mudah ya pasang RAM, tapi sayangnya nggak taw jenis RAM yang mau dibeli kalau hendak Upgrade. Trus yang RAM 2 GB dipakai lagi bersamaan dengan RAM 4 GB atau dicopot terus nggak kepakai yang RAM 2 GB.

Coba googling aja dengan merek serta seri laptop yang jenengan punya, mas. 🙂
Disitu biasanya ada jenis RAM-nya, apakah DDR2 atau DDR3. Selain itu coba cek pake aplikasi CPU-Z, lihat pada bagian SPD, nanti disitu terlihat RAM yang sedang digunakan jenisnya apa.

Itu slotnya cuma satu, jadi sampe berapanya ya sebesar kalo 1 keping itu berapa GB. Saya sih 4GB, jadi total 6GB. Tapi inget, kalo masih pakai Windows versi 32 bit, ga akan bisa lebih dari 4GB total ya. Jadi kalo mo tambah 4GB seperti saja, harus ganti Windows yang versi 64bit.

Tentu saja ada dampaknya. Hanya saja untuk sesuatu yang boros RAM.
Saya tidak hanya upgrade RAM namun juga mengganti harddisk menggunakan SSD.
Sejauh ini RAM tidak banyak efeknya, karena memang prosesornya tidak begitu bagus.
Berhubung pekerjaan saya hanya developer web, ini sudah cukup.
Jujur, kalo pengen nge-game, laptop ini tidak cocok.

Kalau slot RAM masih ada 1 lagi, upgrade aja dengan ukuran yang sama dengan yang satunya, yakni 4GB juga. Jadi totalnya 8GB.
Itu udah lebih dari cukup karena prosesornya cuma segitu. Percuma juga RAM gede kalau prosesor ga kenceng. 🙂
